Coolie Box Office Collection Day 1: Rajinikanth’s Action Thriller Sets Tamil Cinema Record, Beats War 2 Opening

The highly anticipated Rajinikanth movie Coolie, which was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has dominated the box office and broken the previous record for the largest Tamil film opening ever. The film, which was released on August 14, the day before the Independence Day holiday, was able to surpass the highly anticipated Bollywood release War 2, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR.

Coolie, who was produced by Sun Pictures, took advantage of weeks of anticipation by giving an incredible first-day performance.

Collection Figures for Day 1

Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that Coolie made a whopping ₹65 crore net on its first day in India, more than War 2, which took in ₹52.5 crore net. The Telugu and Hindi versions both attracted sizable audiences, but the Tamil version topped the revenue chart.

Theatres throughout South India reported nearly full attendance for the film, which had remarkable occupancy rates of 86.99% for Tamil shows and 92.10% for Telugu screenings.

Global Achievement

According to film trade analyst Sumit Kadel, Coolie had the highest opening for a Tamil film ever in both domestic and international markets, grossing ₹150 crore on Day 1.

In addition to Rajinikanth, Coolie has a strong cast that includes Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruthi Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir.

Critics’ Take

Kadel rated the film 3.5 stars, calling it “a roller-coaster of twists and turns every 15–20 minutes.” He described the story as one where Deva goes to unimaginable lengths to avenge his friend Rajshekhar’s death and protect his daughters. While he noted it may not surpass Vikram or Kaithi, he deemed it “a very good film” that keeps audiences hooked.
